4.11.2022 6.05

In Hanko, Karkkila, Kirkkonummi, Lohja and Vihti, a trial involving free of charge contraception for people under the age of 25 was started on 1 September 2022.

During the trial, all the residents and student health care clients of Hanko, Karkkila, Kirkkonummi, Lohja and Vihti under the age of 25 and regardless of gender will have access to all methods of contraception (IUD, contraceptive implant, vaginal ring, contraceptive pills, condoms), of which you can choose the most suitable option together with a health care professional.

To receive the contraceptive, you need to visit a birth control and family planning clinic or your school and student health care nurse.  If you are under the age of 25, you do not need to renew your prescriptions. Instead, contact the birth control and family planning clinic or school and student health care services in your region to receive the contraceptive free of charge.

The trial will run from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023. The trial is part of the Future Health and Social Services Centres programme, and it aims to develop and harmonise birth control services for those who are under 25 years of age in the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County. After the trial, a decision will be made on whether to make the project permanent.

The trial is carried out within the framework of the project’s appropriations.
