Family care for the elderly

For clients whose functional capacity has reduced, we arrange family care either at their home or at the family carer’s.

Family care refers to organising treatment or care in the private home of a family carer or in the customer's home with the help of a family carer. The aim of family care is to enable home-based care and close relationships as well as to promote basic safety and social relationships. Family care is granted on the basis of the Social Welfare Act (1301/2014), and it is organised in compliance with the Family Care Act (263/2015). The family carer is a private person, who is responsible for the care in a role that resembles a family member on the basis of their service agreement with the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county. The family carer is not a social and health care professional, but their suitability for the task has been assessed and reviewed in statutory pre-coaching. The family carer cannot be assigned tasks requiring medical expertise. Family care can be organised in the form of short-term, long-term, part-time or round-the-clock service. The availability of the services varies in different parts of the well-being services county. Family care could be a good option for you if your ability to function has deteriorated and you need guidance or support, a safe presence, and activities together to support your everyday life. Family care is granted based on an individual service needs assessment. When assessing the suitability and appropriateness of family care, your need for help, ability to function and wishes as well as the family carer's ability to respond to them are taken into account. Family care always starts with a trial period. An appointed worker will be assigned to the customer.

Conditions for receiving the Service

In order to receive family care, your needs for assistance and services need to be assessed. When assessing the suitability and appropriateness of family care, your need for help, ability to function and wishes as well as the family carer's ability to respond to them are taken into account. You may be eligible for family care in the following cases: - you are feeling insecure, anxious, depressed or lonely - you need the guidance, support or company of someone else to cope in everyday life - your ability to function in everyday life has decreased - family care is adequate for your well-being, health and safety. Family care is not an adequate solution if your need for help - primarily requires medical treatment or other demanding professional assistance - requires plenty of physically demanding assistance - regularly takes place at night.

The service is subject to a charge.
