Health examinations for the unemployed
The well-being services county is responsible for organising health care for the unemployed. Health care includes a health examination, which assesses and supports health and well-being as well as identifies the ability to work and function and the needs for rehabilitation. The examination is performed by a nurse. The examination usually includes measurements, such as body mass index and blood pressure as well as certain laboratory tests. An integral part of the examination is the discussion at the appointment, which involves matters such as the person's health, mental health, ability to function, lifestyle and possible symptoms. In the health examination of the unemployed person, particular attention is paid to issues that may affect life management and the ability to work. The person performing the health examination provides guidance on appropriate nutrition, exercise and self-care. The health examination may also establish the need for rehabilitation in order to strengthen or restore the ability to work. An individual treatment or service plan is drawn up in connection with the health examination.
The health examination is a voluntary and free service for the unemployed. Those wishing to undergo a health examination must contact their health care unit. Guidance is also available at the Employment and Economic Development Office and Social Services.
