Laboratory

We diagnose, rule out and screen illnesses and do follow-up on how the treatment is working.

Health care laboratories examine and analyse, for example, blood, urine and cell samples and run tests. Laboratory tests may be used to confirm or rule out illnesses, as part of treatment, in treatment follow-up and in various screenings. Laboratory services in public health care require a referral from a physician or nurse. The referral specifies which aspects of the sample are examined. Before giving the sample, you should read the instructions given by the treating physician or the laboratory. You may, for example, not be allowed to eat or drink much before giving your sample. The laboratories mainly require an appointment and a queue number. Appointments for laboratory services can be made in advance on HUS laboratory's website or by calling HUS laboratory's customer service. Your visit will go quickly and smoothly when you make an appointment in advance. You can also come to most examinations without an appointment by taking a queue number. We recommend that you read the location-specific instructions for coming to HUS laboratories.
