24-hour service housing for mental health and substance abuse clients

We provide round-the-clock service housing for mental health and substance abuse patients who need support in a housing unit. To receive round-the-clock service housing, contact the social work of your municipality’s housing services.

Round-the-clock service housing is a housing service that is provided as per the Social Welfare Act to adults who need daily support for the management of daily activities and taking care of themselves due to mental health and/or substance abuse problems. The service is relevant when outpatient care services or cohousing are not sufficient to respond to your support needs. The service includes a dwelling on which you will make a lease agreement with the service provider. In round-the-clock service housing, you can receive help and support according to your needs, e.g.: - for monitoring your health - for quitting intoxicants/reducing their use - for carrying out medical treatment - for monitoring your mental well-being - for personal hygiene - for nutrition - for maintaining a daily rhythm - for managing finances - for acting in interaction situations - for independent decision-making - for dealing with authorities. The service includes daytime/group activities. Staff are present in the housing unit around the clock. They have special expertise in mental health and substance abuse problems. The aim of the service is to maintain and promote your ability to function and to help you rehabilitate into a less supported form of housing. Round-the-clock service housing is voluntary, but it requires you to be motivated to accept the service and act according to your service plan. You are eligible for the service when it has been assessed based on the Social Welfare Act that you are in need of round-the-clock service housing. Your service needs are assessed on a regular basis, and the service is temporary.

Conditions for receiving the Service

The service covers all clients who are assessed to need round-the-clock service housing pursuant to the Social Welfare Act and who have been granted the service. The service is intended for adults who need daily and round-the-clock support for managing daily activities and taking care of themselves due to mental health and/or substance abuse problems. The service is relevant when cohousing (previously service housing) is not adequate to meet your need for support and service, and you require strong support for your care and rehabilitation due to mental health and/or substance abuse problems. Clients directed to the service require support for monitoring their health and for performing the daily tasks related to taking medication, taking care of hygiene, eating, cleaning, financial matters and who also need round-the-clock support and assistance and the presence of an employee. The need for night-time assistance and support is regular. The need for night-time support or supervision may be related to the monitoring or symptoms of a health condition, mental or somatic illness or substance abuse problems.

The service is subject to a charge.
