Communication instruction for people with disabilitie

We teach sign language and means of communication that support or compensate for speech, and we also provide guidance in using assistive equipment.

Communication instruction involves teaching sign language or communication methods that support and substitute speech and providing guidance on using communication aids. The aim of communication instruction is to support communication and interaction by various means in daily environments. Communication instruction does not replace speech therapy or guidance provided by a speech therapist. Nor does it replace the assessment of communication aids included in medical rehabilitation. In speech therapy, the goal can be to compile a picture folder. In communication instruction, the aim can be to learn how to use the folder within the family. Communication instruction can be arranged in the form of family instruction, group coaching, or distance learning

Conditions for receiving the Service

Communication instruction is arranged for the following people: - families who have a child with an intellectual disability who has challenges with communication - families with children with hearing impairment and - adults who have developed a speech or hearing impairment as a result of an illness or accident. Communication instruction does not replace speech therapy or guidance provided by a speech therapist. Nor does it replace the assessment of communication aids included in medical rehabilitation.

The service is free of charge.
