Financial assistance for persons with disabilities

We support the purchasing of everyday equipment and assist with additional food and clothing expenses.

Financial assistance can be granted for different kinds of equipment, machines and devices if the client absolutely needs them to cope independently in their daily activities, such as being able to move and communicate. The reimbursement is half of the reasonable cost of the equipment, machines or devices. Necessary modifications to the standard equipment, machine or device to meet the needs of the disability are reimbursed in full. The machine or equipment can also be given for the client without any fee. Necessary and additional expenses caused by the client's special diets or the special dietary products they need for a long time and on a regular basis can be reimbursed in the form of financial assistance. Additional clothing expenses can be reimbursed if the person cannot use ready-to-wear clothes or shoes as such due to their disability or illness. The equipment, machines and devices required for performing daily activities and the reimbursement for clothing and food expenses are included in the discretionary support measures of the Disability Services Act and are granted in accordance with the appropriations available.

Conditions for receiving the Service

Financial assistance for persons with disabilities is granted in accordance with the appropriations reserved for the service by the wellbeing services county. The costs of procuring equipment, machines and devices that are needed for performing daily activities are reimbursed to people with disabilities who absolutely need them to move, communicate, cope at home or participate in leisure activities due to their disability or illness. Disability Services do not provide compensation for equipment, machines and devices covered by medical rehabilitation. Additional clothing expenses can be reimbursed when the client cannot use the ready-to-wear clothes or shoes due to their disability or illness or if the client uses them exceptionally much due to their illness or disability. Additional clothing expenses can be reimbursed for clothing that is essential for managing normal life activities. The part exceeding the normal nutritional costs can be reimbursed for the costs of special dietary costs when the special dietary products are essential due to a disability or an illness and their use is long-lasting.
