Home modifications for people with disabilities

We reimburse our clients for the necessary modifications to their homes, if that is required for the client to be able to live independently at home.

The home modifications support the independent living and life management of people with disabilities. Modifications are only made to permanent residences, and in that case the costs compensated as disability services must be reasonable. The purpose of home modifications is to enable people with disabilities to live in their own homes. Modifications are not made to the homes of people who require institutional care, or to secondary residences. Moreover, compensation will not be provided for basic renovations to an old detached house, for example. Modifications that can be compensated include widening doors, removing doorsteps, installing ramps, building wheelchair-accessible pathways in the yard area, and so on. All reasonable costs of home modifications will be reimbursed to the applicant in full. In the case of modifications made during the new construction phase, the compensation covers the additional costs that exceed the normal construction costs of a corresponding dwelling.

Conditions for receiving the Service

The clients receiving the service are persons with disabilities, as defined in the Disability Services Act, for whom moving around or other independent management of daily activities is particularly difficult due to their disability or illness. The reasonable costs incurred of the home modifications can be reimbursed if the person with a disability absolutely needs the modifications to manage normal daily activities due to their disability or illness. Modifications are not made to the homes of people who require institutional care, or to secondary residences. Renovation work will also not be reimbursed as modifications.

The service is free of charge.
