Family group home for people who have arrived in Finland as unaccompanied minors

In a family group home, a child who has arrived in Finland without a guardian will receive round-the-clock support and care, and gets to live the everyday life of a child. The aim of the family group home is to help the child integrate into Finland. Two counsellors working in the family group home will be assigned as the child's personal instructors. They work closely with the child, together with the rest of the child's network. The main objective of the personal instructors' work is to establish a trusting relationship with the child. After this, the work emphasizes a rehabilitative and restorative approach. The family group home pays particular attention to: - a balanced development and well-being - close and enduring relationships - the opportunity to receive understanding and affection - supervision and care appropriate to age and level of development - education in accordance with the child's tendencies and wishes - a safe growth environment as well as bodily and mental integrity - growing up to be independent and responsible - the child's linguistic, cultural and religious background In the family group home, the objectives supporting integration are: - Societal participation and integration - Prevention and alleviation of social problems - Developing life management skills - Supporting the child in living a good life on their own terms The means to achieve these objectives include: - Appreciative dialogue - Inclusion and participation - Openness and trust - Activation - Professionalism of instructors doing preventive and proactive work

Conditions for receiving the Service

- The family group home is intended for minors who have arrived in Finland without a guardian. - The child is entitled to the family group home services after they receive a residence permit and a municipal place, either through the reception system (group home) or as a quota refugee.

The service is free of charge.
