Wellbeing for families and young people

Movement and physical activity support the wellbeing of families

Exercise strengthens the body, mind and family relationships

Regular physical activity is a key part of children’s and young people’s overall wellbeing. It supports physical development, improves concentration and mood, and helps manage stress. When children are active together with their parents, it creates shared moments of joy, strengthens family interaction, and builds lasting healthy habits. Moving together increases a sense of togetherness and can be an important way to strengthen the parent–child relationship amid the rush of everyday life.

At times, a busy family life and stressful situations may affect how active the whole family is and lead to a break from exercise. In those moments it is worth remembering that you can always start moving again, at any time. In Western Uusimaa, for example, there is a wide range of locations for outdoor exercise where you can spend time outside and be active at your own pace as a family.
