Water main broken in Espoo – residents in affected areas urged to boil water before use 20.2.
A water main broke in Mäkkylä, Espoo on 19 February 2024, affecting the water distribution in eastern Espoo and Kauniainen (north and east of Turuntie), as well as Linnainen, Vantaa. The repair work is underway. By the morning of 20 February, all properties in the affected area have access to water. However, as a safety measure, HSY urges that residents boil their drinking and cooking water for at least 5 minutes before use.
Boiled water remains safe for consumption even after cooling. Water for coffee or tea should also be boiled first.
Residents should continue boiling their water until further notice – at least through the entirety of Tuesday 20 February – until health authorities have confirmed the water quality in the area. That said, if you have already consumed unboiled water, the health risk is very low.
We have notified the supervisors of our service production and identified our properties affected by the disruption. Starting from 19 February, all water used in our operations has been boiled, and bottled water is provided. Regrettably, we have been forced to cancel or reschedule some services, including dental appointments in oral healthcare.
We urge residents to ensure that their elderly family members living at home are using boiled water and have access to clean drinking water.
Please follow the guidelines and check the map of the affected areas at HSY website (HSY.fi). (external link)
HSY will provide further updates in a press conference scheduled for 20 February at 21.00.
