Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county granted EUR 3.2 million for the development of a freelance practitioner model
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has granted EUR 3.2 million to the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county for the development of a freelance practitioner model to ensure the continuity of care.
The aim of the freelance practitioner model is to get doctors in the private sector to commit to long-term care relationships within the wellbeing services county’s scope of responsibility.
"The freelance practitioner model will be built alongside the official system for salaried doctors employed by the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county. The development of the official system for salaried doctors will continue as salaried doctors are the cornerstone of our primary healthcare," says Markus Paananen, Service Area Director for Health and Social Services.
From the client's perspective, the model refers to a designated physician who assumes overall responsibility for their treatment.
The project will focus on testing and developing the freelance practitioner model and the digital solutions that support it.
"We will be piloting the freelance practitioner model this year. This funding will allow us to continue our development work and expand the use of the model after the pilot," says Chief Physician Emil Heinäaho.
"We hope that the results of the pilot will also encourage other wellbeing services counties to test the model and introduce it.”
