On 22 August 2024, Miika Puolitaival from the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County and Jouko Lindholm from Luksia signed the partnership agreement at the Luksia campus in Lohja. The signing event was relaxed, featuring discussions, casual conversation, and the sharing of expectations and future visions.

The partnership agreement aims to establish long-term collaboration to enhance professional skills within the social and healthcare sectors of the Wellbeing Services County. This agreement enables students at Luksia to access diverse learning environments. At the same time, it allows for the integration of students’ and professionals’ skills while strengthening the connection between education and practical work in social and health services.

The partnership ensures that education aligns with the evolving needs of the healthcare and social welfare sectors. Degree programmes will be updated to reflect ongoing developments and the expectations of the professional world. Similarly, the Wellbeing Services County can influence the content of Luksia degree programmes by highlighting identified needs.
This collaborative effort will be assessed and developed through mutual negotiations held at least once a year.

Lifelong Learning and Supplementary Education

Furthermore, the partnership enables alumni to return to the classroom to update their knowledge. Through this agreement, we can create educational programs precisely tailored to the needs of the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.

Professionals employed by the Wellbeing Services County serve as instructors and mentors for students. This supports learning and helps students better adapt to the workplace community. Additionally, students have the opportunity to network with healthcare professionals and the broader organization, which may facilitate employment opportunities and career development.

This partnership agreement represents a significant step towards addressing future challenges in the sector and ensuring that healthcare and social welfare professionals are well-trained and competent. It guarantees that future professionals will be prepared to face the demands of care work, while also having the flexibility to develop their careers in diverse ways.

We have collaborated before and continue to do so. A notable example is a part degree programme in the oral healthcare sector. This programme trains practical nurses to be ready for examining and treating oral diseases. In-person teaching occurs once a week and is supplemented with independent studies both online and at the workplace. Some of the in-person sessions are held at the oral healthcare unit in Lohja.
