Would you be interested in becoming a family carer for a child who has arrived in Finland as an unaccompanied minor?
The aim of family care that supports integration is to place children who have arrived in Finland as unaccompanied minors in family care in the Eastern, Central and Western Uusimaa region.
Family care helps with integration
In family care that supports integration, the child lives with a family where they have the opportunity to have close relationships and a home-like environment. In family care, the child is provided with care and a safe living environment, where their growth and development are supported.
In family care, particular attention is paid to supporting the child’s integration. The child will learn the things and skills needed in society, but at the same time, their cultural identity and mother tongue skills will be supported.
What kind of family is suitable to become a family carer?
We are looking for many kinds of family carers to join us. Almost every family is suitable to become a family carer! The key is that the family has the will and resources to help the child integrate into Finland.
It is important for the family carer to have
- a stable life situation,
- flexibility,
- the ability to provide care and attention
- the ability to genuinely encounter the child.
Family carers must have sufficient Finnish language skills to be able to participate in the group-based family care coaching. We train all family carers for the role. In addition, our professionals support the family carers in their important work. Family carers are paid a care allowance and reimbursement of expenses in accordance with the Family Care Act.
When does the next coaching start?
We regularly organise group-based coaching for those interested in family care. This autumn’s coaching for new family carers starts on 16 November. Sign up by 27 October. During the coaching, families have the opportunity to reflect on their ability and readiness to serve as family carers.
