At Dagtek's activity center in Raasepori, foreign volunteers have been working for years. The center also hosts the online TV channel FIXtv, whose operations were documented by the latest volunteer, French Marlène Reichman.

"Marlène has truly succeeded in capturing the essence of FIXtv; how we work and why we do this. The documentary is made for a French audience because Marlène wants to show a good example of how one can work together with disabled individuals. We are very proud and grateful for this wonderful film", says FIXtv's group director Sara Jansson.

This article is based on Marlène Reichman's documentary film, in which she interviewed the FIXtv editorial team about their daily work and future visions. A link to the film can be found at the end of the article.

FIXtv is a unique web TV channel that has established itself as a platform for creativity and inclusion. The FIXtv editorial team consists of disabled individuals who, together with their director, create a variety of entertaining and informative programs and series.

FIXtv started its operations in the fall of 2019, after the editorial members had completed a two-year folk high school course where they learned the basics of media through an adapted curriculum. This training provided the group with the necessary skills to establish their own web TV channel and produce content that reflects their unique perspectives and experiences.

Varied tasks

A day at FIXtv begins with a morning meeting where the day's activities are planned. The editorial team films, edits, and designs their programs, and sometimes they travel to different locations to showcase their productions. A typical day also includes exercise breaks to keep everyone energized. After lunch, they take a walk to the beach or library. The afternoon often ends with a coffee break where they discuss the day's work.

A filming day at FIXtv is often hectic and full of considerations. The editorial team alternates their roles as cameramen or the one who says "quiet, take". When filming in the studio, many enjoy the set design. After filming, they transfer the material from the camera to the computer, edit, and select which parts they want to use. They also record voice-overs and add music before publishing the program.

Voices of the creators

When FIXtv started, the editorial team imagined making a few small videos for themselves. But after two years of folk high school, they had learned so much that they were able to establish their own website and produce more serious programs. They address issues that affect disabled individuals and demonstrate that they can create high-quality content.

FIXtv has twelve different series on its website, fixtv.fi. Among these are "En liten fråga" (A small question), where the editorial team goes to the city and asks questions to the public, and "FIXtv testar" (FIXtv tests), where they try out different things. These programs are not only entertaining but also informative and engaging.

The work of FIXtv is not only a source of pride for the editorial team but also an important platform for making their voices heard. They advocate for freedom, self-determination, and equal value and rights for all. Through their programs, they show that disabled individuals have the same rights as everyone else and that they can produce valuable content.

A bright future for the five-year-old

The future of FIXtv looks bright. The editorial team hopes to reach a large audience and continue creating many exciting programs. They look forward to welcoming many interesting guests and continuing to work in media in a place where they feel safe and appreciated.

With a strong belief that everyone is different and that diversity is a good thing, FIXtv continues to inspire and inform through its inclusive and engaging programs. Cheers to a bright future for FIXtv and everyone who works there!
