New foster families and carers are being sought for children of all ages. Family Care of the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County has 450 children in 200 foster families and 100 foster carers in Southern Finland. Every year, dozens of new families are needed. Family Care employs professional staff to support foster families and carers in the important work they do.
Currently, there is a significant shortage of long-term foster families and families for school-aged children.
We are also looking for foster carers to stand in for foster families. As a foster carer, you will, for example, take care of a child once a month for the weekend. Caring for the child can take place in the home of the foster carer or the foster family.
Becoming a foster family is a big decision that affects the whole family’s life. Children under placement have experienced many kinds of losses in their lives. Therefore, it is important that families interested in becoming foster families receive coaching prior to taking on this role. In the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County, 2 to 3 group-format PRIDE advance coaching sessions are organised annually for those interested in foster family activities. During the coaching, families have the opportunity to reflect on their ability and readiness to serve as a foster family.
