Niittykumpu hosts the largest dental clinic in Western Uusimaa
The second phase of the Niittykumpu Dental Clinic has been completed. The clinic is now the largest in Western Uusimaa, offering a total of 43 treatment rooms. Operations in the new facilities began in mid‑January.
The second phase of the Niittykumpu Dental Clinic has been completed. All 43 treatment rooms of the clinic are now in use. The Nöykkiö Dental Clinic and the orthodontic services previously located in Kivenlahti have now been transferred to Niittykumpu. In addition to the professionals who transferred from Nöykkiö and Kivenlahti, the extension unit at Niittykumpu has welcomed 10 new work teams.
In Espoo, orthodontic services have been centralised to two locations: Leppävaara and Niittykumpu. According to Laura Tarkkila, Chief Dental Officer in Orthodontics, these units provide care for patients whose malocclusions qualify them for orthodontic services in the wellbeing services county. Most orthodontic patients are children and adolescents. “At Niittykumpu, we will particularly be focusing on orthodontic care for young children,” Tarkkila says.
The first part of the Niittykumpu Dental Clinic has been providing services since March 2025.
Excellent conditions for developing services in a large unit
The Oral Health Services of the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County has carried out extensive development work to improve access to care and to streamline services. These efforts include the earliest possible transition to a joint patient information system for the entire wellbeing services county, the adoption of the digital service platform Lunna, a centralised customer service and a reform of the appointment system.
A large dental clinic allows operations to be developed in ways that are not possible in smaller units. Anna Ekdahl, Chief Dental Officer for the south-eastern zone, notes that Niittykumpu can now expand, for example, the flexible appointment model, enabling a combination of several oral healthcare procedures during a single visit.
“The advantage of the flexible appointment model lies in its adaptability in situations where the required appointment length is difficult to estimate in advance. In many cases, more procedures can be completed during one visit than with the conventional model, enabling treatment to be completed more quickly and reducing the total number of appointments needed. The model also helps us make better use of appointment slots that might otherwise remain unused.”
Ekdahl and Tarkkila are pleased with the facilities at the Niittykumpu Dental Clinic: “We are delighted to be able to provide our staff with efficient, modern workspaces and equipment, and to offer our patients high‑quality dental technology that incorporates more environmentally sustainable solutions.”
