Enjoy the outdoors together – Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County joins the Vie vanhus ulos campaign

We are taking part in the nationwide Vie vanhus ulos campaign, which encourages shared outdoor activities with older people. Coordinated by the Age Institute, the campaign will run from 7 to 20 September 2026 under the theme “The joy of being outdoors belongs to everyone”. The annual campaign aims to provide older people with more opportunities to spend time outdoors, supported by family members, loved ones, staff and volunteers.
Many older people need someone by their side when they go outdoors, both for support and companionship. Reduced mobility, fear of falling, difficult stairs, heavy entrance doors, loneliness or memory problems may make it difficult for them to go outdoors independently. Often, the presence of another person is enough to create a sense of security and encourage them to step outside.
Spending time outdoors supports physical and mental wellbeing, strengthens social connections and brings meaningful variety to everyday life.
Spending time outdoors creates shared moments of joy
We encourage residents in our area to spend time outdoors with their elderly family members and loved ones. During the campaign, the number of outdoor activity sessions will be added to the nationwide total. A new record was set in 2025, with 76,770 outdoor activity sessions recorded.
The campaign can also be followed and supported on social media with the Finnish and Swedish hashtags #VieVanhusUlos and #GåUtMedDenÄldre.
