Specialised dental care

In the Special Dental Care Unit (LUVN-Sehy) we offer specialist-level dental care.

To access treatment, you need a referral from a public health centre dentist within the Western Uusimaa Welfare Area (LUVN). Based on the referral, your need for treatment will be assessed at the specialised oral health care unit, and accordingly you may receive an invitation to a clinical examination at LUVN-Sehy. During the examination visit, a possible treatment plan, schedule, and cost estimate will be discussed.

At LUVN-Sehy, the care is provided by specialist dentists and dentists with specific expertise in various specialties. We provide treatment in oral and maxillofacial surgery, gum and periodontal diseases, demanding root canal treatments, replacement of missing teeth that clearly impair chewing function, and severe muscle-related bite problems. We also provide specialised oral health care services for children.

After specialised dental care, further treatment will continue at your own health centre.

Conditions for receiving the Service

The health center dentist in the LUVN area determines the need for specialized dental care and, if necessary, makes a referral to the Special Dental Care Unit.
Specialized dental care is free for patients under 18 years of age. For those aged 18 and older, specialised dental care is subject to a fee. The fee consists of a visit fee, procedure fees, and dental laboratory costs. The visit fee for a specialist dentist is slightly higher than for a general dentist. Oral health care fees accumulate towards the annual payment cap. Dental laboratory costs do not accumulate towards the payment cap. For missed appointments that are not cancelled in advance, a no‑show fee will be charged from all patients aged 18 and over. Fees for other specialised medical services, such as those provided by HUS, are determined separately.
