Information for professionals about notifications of concern
Contact social services if a person is clearly unable to take care of their own wellbeing, health or safety. Make a notification of concern without delay, even if you have not obtained the person’s consent. Confidentiality obligations do not prevent you from making the notification.
Examples of such situations include:
- urgent evictions and homelessness
- urgent problems related to income support (social assistance), such as having no food or medication
- situations involving violence, such as a need for shelter
- situations where you encounter a person whose wellbeing you are concerned about and who is unable to seek help themselves or does not understand their need for help.
