Wellbeing for families and young people

Sleep as the foundation of health and wellbeing in families

Getting enough high-quality sleep is vital for the development of babies, children and young people—and for the whole family’s ability to cope in everyday life.

Sleep supports the wellbeing of the whole family – routines, recovery and everyday support

Sleep helps the body and mind recover, improves learning, and supports emotional balance. For babies, sleep is closely linked to establishing a daily rhythm and a sense of safety. For children and young people, sleep supports growth, concentration and mental health. For parents, sleep is an essential resource for managing everyday challenges.  Sleep difficulties can place strain on the whole family, so it is important that support, information and peer support are available, for example through group services provided by organisations.
