Work on all levels

“I work at an activity centre as an instructor. For me, the most fascinating part about my job is the creativity and developing and trying out new functions with the clients. I have specialised in multisensory activities. It means observing things through the different senses, investigating things and thinking about life with the clients. In my job, I get to consider how we can produce more experiences for our clients and how we can further diversify the functions that are interesting to our clients. In our activities, arts and creative functions are of special interest to me. With our clients, we get to try out compositions, one more wonderful than the other, and the number of creative ideas is endless. This is why I encourage people who like creative functions and arts to apply to work at the activity centres. Our work provides opportunities for big dreams and the realisation of such. Another thing that I find important in my job is that both space and appreciation is given to development and creativity. For this I thank our supervisors, who enable the growth and development of new ideas in the work community." – Piritta Heiskanen, special instructor

Modern activities and great professionals

At the activity centres, in the groups for daytime activities, we have diverse range of activities that promote inclusion. The client's wishes, needs and areas of interest are essential premises for the planning of the contents in our activities. In our work, we can often widely utilise our own hobbies for the benefit of our clients. From the activity centre, we also carry out work activities and job coaching services in support of the employment of our clients. The work at the activity centres is carried out in day shifts.

Our clients are persons with disabilities, who have different kinds of assistance needs.

Work and home life blend

“I work at an activity centre as an instructor. I am in charge of the guidance work carried out at the activity centre, as well as of the group for stable activities. I am a practical nurse, social pedagogical horse activities director and an agricultural entrepreneur and I have own horses. During the pandemic, we had to think of new ways of carrying out our client work outside and in small groups. That is when we got the idea to offer stable activities to our clients. At the stable, the participants are allowed to interact with the animals. It gives me strength and I want to give the clients a possibility to experience that as well. Fortunately, in disability services we can bring in our own hobbyisms for the benefit of our clients, if we wish to do so. One employee has arts as a hobby, another likes to bake, a third is into something else. It is lovely that we can bring in things that we enjoy and offer them to our clients in their everyday lives. And in this way, we can split tasks and do things that we enjoy, everyone does not have to know everything."  – Kirsi Aarnio-Kreander, instructor
