Diverse and meaningful work in housing services

“I started working at Enäranta group home in 2019. I had previously been working at a day care centre for a long time, but I yearned for change and to learn something new. On a trade union cruise, I met practical nurses who worked with people with intellectual disabilities. They were very enthusiastic about their line of work and enticed me to join. Since then, I have been working here and would not consider switching anymore. The task of an instructor is to support, guide, and teach skills that clients need to cope with everyday tasks and life in general. In this activity unit, the work is not care-oriented. Instead, we encourage clients to do things themselves and learn how to manage various daily chores. Our job is to enable our clients to lead a diverse and wholesome daily life. Part of this includes going to different events and locations with the clients, or simply being out among people, doing fun and ordinary things. We also provide help and support in clients’ interpersonal matters. " – Noora Kallela, instructor
