Ongoing Major Externally Funded Projects

The Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland (the RRP project)

Our most significant externally funded project is the Sustainable Growth Project, supported by the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland. The focus areas of this project are:

  • Improving access to social and healthcare services. 
  • Addressing the backlog in care, rehabilitation, and service needs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Expanding and enhancing digital services.
  • Increasing cost-efficiency.

Key development areas include services for adults and youth with mental health or substance abuse challenges, chronic illness, heavy service users, and multilingual communities. This project also strengthens digital service capabilities, leadership, and research. The project is also part of national development efforts (the online family centre, multiprofessional service concept for health and well-being.

Further highlights of the project’s contributions include:

  • Improving the availability and continuity of health station services (e.g., expanding the team model, developing the model for continuity of care)
  • Improving the availability of primary-level mental health services by expanding the use of the Terapiat etulinjaan operating model
  • Expanding the ADHD diagnosis model for children and adolescents
  • Piloting an operating model aimed at reducing the loneliness and social isolation of older people
  • Developing rehabilitation
  • Piloting impact-based guidance of care for patients with lower back pain
  • Developing perspectives and resources for informed decision-making.

Centre of Expertise in Raseborg

The Center of Expertise in Raseborg is a collaborative initiative (2024–2027) between HUS, the Wellbeing Services County of East Uusimaa, and Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County. This project focuses on creating network-based centers of expertise at Raseborg and Porvoo hospitals, emphasizing linguistic rights in social and healthcare services.

Key goals for 2024 include: - Establishing a multidisciplinary bilingual learning center. - Developing a bilingual expertise module at Raseborg Hospital. - Creating an AI-powered translation tool. - Enhancing Swedish-language electronic services and electronic service access.

Funding: €3 million allocated by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, with annual disbursements to the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County, HUS Group, and the Wellbeing Services County of East Uusimaa.
