Research, development and innovation activities
At the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County, we are committed to providing our residents with the best possible health and social services. To accomplish this, we are continuously developing our operations in line with our strategic goals. As part of this commitment, we actively engage in regional and national networks focused on Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI).
Our centralized RDI Unit drives these efforts with the following key goals:
- Speed up development by focusing on priority areas.
- Align innovation efforts with future challenges.
- Adopt cutting-edge technologies for maximum impact.
- Bridge the gap between research and development.
- Build user-friendly electronic services that are so good they become the preferred way to access care.
- Simplify the service process for clients.
- Strengthen foundational research in social, healthcare, and rescue services.
Research
One of our objectives is to promote scientific research in primary healthcare and social welfare. To achieve this, we are creating an environment that supports research and fosters partnerships with universities, educational institutions, and private companies. Similarly, we work to enable new career paths for researchers and offer opportunities for research collaboration.

Development
We drive impactful and high-quality development across all levels of our organization. By extensively refining our organization and social and healthcare services, we aim to provide better services to all residents. Centralizing support for health and social services development, maintaining operational models in project management, and overseeing large-scale government-funded projects within the RDI Unit allows us to streamline our efforts. To expedite development and improve coordination, we use a project portfolio system to track and monitor over 190 projects. Additionally, the RDI Unit coordinates external RDI funding and manages the development of client referrals across the county.
