Specialised Developmental Support Services
Intensive multidisciplinary support
Specialised Developmental Support Services has a multidisciplinary expert team comprising professionals in medicine, psychology, social work, healthcare, and communication and interaction. We provide intensive multidisciplinary support under sections 16 and 17 of the Disability Services Act in situations where the client displays a significant amount of challenging behaviour. The purpose of the service is to support the client and the people in their immediate environment when primary-level services (eg. social work, primary healthcare or rehabilitation) have not been able to provide suitable forms of support for the situation. Our expert team always assesses each client’s situation individually. As a rule, we provide multidisciplinary outreach support in the client’s immediate environment. We serve the entire Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.
Who is this service for?
The service is intended for people of all ages who have:

If you are a client or a person close to a client and are wondering whether Specialised Developmental Support Services could be of help, we recommend that you first discuss the matter with your assigned social worker or a health centre doctor. They can assess the situation and, if necessary, refer the matter onwards. If you are unsure how to proceed, you can contact our client advisory service at tel. 040 646 6002. We answer calls on weekdays during office hours. If you cannot reach us immediately, we will call you back at the earliest possible opportunity.
Rehabilitation for minors with an intellectual disability
A child or young person can become a client of our wellbeing services county’s rehabilitation services when:
- their follow-up treatment in specialised healthcare ends, or
- the family moves to our county from another municipality.
We conduct rehabilitation assessments for children and young people under 18 who have an intellectual disability. Based on this assessment, we will issue recommendations—for example, for intensive medical rehabilitation arranged by Kela and provided by Kela-approved private therapists.
A rehabilitation planner oversees the entire planning process and offers guidance on anything related to the rehabilitation of a child or young person with an intellectual disability. Contact a rehabilitation planner if you need:
- a rehabilitation plan to apply for intensive medical rehabilitation arranged by Kela, or rehabilitation covered by an insurance company
- advice and guidance on matters related to the rehabilitation of children and young people with an intellectual disability
