Positive experiences of remote specialist appointments in Kirkkonummi

Did you know that a health station doctor can also contact a specialist doctor during your appointment? Real-time remote specialist consultation is already used in several municipalities in Western Uusimaa.

In real-time remote consultation, your health station doctor contacts a HUS specialist doctor via a video or audio link or chat service during your appointment. This will allow a HUS specialist doctor to consult you on your treatment during the visit and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and participate in the planning of your treatment.

Laura Moilanen, a health station doctor in Kirkkonummi, has used a remote specialist consultation service with her patients, particularly in the treatment of dermatological diseases.

“I have first examined the patient's problem based on my own expertise, a few treatment options have already been tested and perhaps a biopsy has been taken. If the matter does not seem to be resolved, I have contacted a specialist in dermatological diseases via remote services,” Laura Moilanen says.

The benefit of remote consultation is undeniable, especially in dermatological diseases. The remote connection makes it easy for the doctor to show the specialist via a camera where the patient has a rash and what it is like.

Doctor Laura Moilanen sees many benefits in real-time remote consultation: It speeds up treatment and reduces the need to send patients to specialised medical clinics. The service will increase cooperation between basic healthcare and specialised medical care.

With the help of real-time remote consultation, you can conveniently take care of issues that do not require a visit to the specialist doctor in person.

“The customer saves on time and effort and avoids having to travel to another location when they do not necessarily need to go any further than their own health station to receive specialist treatment,” Moilanen summarises.

Laura Moilanen's patients have provided positive feedback on the remote consultation service. She hopes that information about the service will reach the health station customers.

“This is still a relatively new system and service. Once the customers are more aware of this service, they can also suggest that their doctor contact a specialist. It could also increase the use of the service.”

The real-time remote specialist consultation service is currently available in Hanko, Inkoo, Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Karviainen, Raasepori and Lohja.
