Employer’s insurance for personal assistance to be reformed

27.3.2023 6.40

Employment pension insurance reforms coming to the employers of personal assistance: TyEL insurances will be transferred to pension insurance provider Varma.

The reform does not require any measures from you

The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County acts as a substitute payer for personal assistance organised under the employer model. The payment of assistants’ salaries is done through the Oima service. Oima has and will continue to take care of the employer's statutory insurance policies, which also include the employer's pension insurance (TyEL). The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County pays the costs of hiring assistants.

How does cooperation between Varma and Oima benefit you, the employer of a personal assistant?

  • You will have access to a new electronic service developed by Oima and Varma that provides information and support for acting as an employer and for promoting your assistant's ability to work and cope at work. The service also contains material for assistants.
  • You can find the material on the Work ability tab in the Oima service or at www.varma.fi/henkilokohtainenapu (in Finnish).
  • Varma and Oima handle all invoicing issues automatically. Invoices will not be directed to you under any circumstances.
  • All possible issues related to employment pension insurances are automatically directed to Varma from the Oima service. This will avoid, for example, situations in which the employer would mistakenly have two overlapping personal assistance insurances.
  • In the future, you have access to more information on employment pension insurances in the Oima service.

What is next?

For you, as an employer of a personal assistant, to benefit from the reform described above, your employer’s pension insurance (TyEL insurance) will be transferred to Varma. This does not require any measures from you, and the transfer of TyEL insurance will not affect your other insurances.

However, as an employer, you can choose your employment pension insurance company.
