The free contraception trial to continue until the end of the year
The trial of free contraception for under 25-year-olds in Hanko, Karkkila, Kirkkonummi, Lohja and Vihti will continue until 31 December 2023.
The trial of free contraception for under 25-year-olds has been ongoing since 1 September 2022 in Hanko, Karkkila, Kirkkonummi, Lohja and Vihti. During the trial, all residents under the age of 25 in the aforementioned municipalities, as well as clients of school and student health services in those municipalities, have had free access to all contraceptive methods for pregnancy prevention (IUD, contraceptive implant, vaginal ring, pill, condom) regardless of gender. The most suitable method is chosen in consultation with a health care professional.
To obtain free contraceptives, you need to visit a family planning clinic or your school and student health nurse. There is no need for separate prescription renewals for those under the age of 25. Simply contact your local family planning clinic or school and student health services to obtain the contraceptive free of charge.
The free contraception trial has been extended until 31 December 2023. The decision about the continuation of the project will be made within this year.
The situation in other municipalities of the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County as of 2023:
- Espoo: Free contraception for under 20-year-olds. 20–24-year-olds receive combined oral contraceptive pills, progestogen-only pills (so-called mini pills) or a contraceptive vaginal ring free of charge for the first year of use. IUDs and contraceptive implants are free of charge until the age of 25.
- Kauniainen: Free contraception for under 22-year-olds. 20–24-Year-olds receive long-acting contraception free of charge.
- Siuntio: Free contraception for under 25-year-olds
- Ingå: Free contraception for under 25-year-olds
- Raseborg: Free contraception for under 20-year-olds
