The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County has received a total of €160 000 in funding from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. This grant is designated for projects aimed at overhauling the distribution of tasks and supporting the work capabilities of healthcare and social welfare professionals.

The funding is part of the Good Work Programme initiated by the Ministry.  The programme consists of both short- and long-term measures to address the shortage of healthcare and social welfare professionals.

The funding will enable six units from the service area for the elderly to join a training and development programme organised by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. This programme focuses on enhancing workforce resilience and job satisfaction. The training aims to foster a stronger sense of team unity and enhance employee well-being and retention.

“Thoroughly improving staff retention is critically important for us. By nurturing work capabilities and job satisfaction, we strive to ensure that we have sufficient staff to deliver our services. This approach also increases the appeal of our workplace, making it easier to recruit new talent,” states Miika Puolitaival, Director of Career Services at the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.

Additionally, the state funding allows Western Uusimaa to experiment with employing qualified people from the culture sector for roles within the elderly services that enhance clients’ functional abilities and promote their inclusion. This initiative includes redefining the distribution of responsibilities among professionals, utilizing cultural activities to enhance elderly individuals’ functional abilities, and creating innovative operational models in social and health services that promote inclusivity and a comprehensive understanding of human needs.

“The pilot provides an opportunity to restructure task allocation and labour division among our staff in a way that we believe will improve staff availability. It allows us to fully leverage the diverse skills and potential of our entire workforce, ultimately increasing the time healthcare professionals can dedicate to client and patient care,” Miika Puolitaival summarizes.

Further developments in the distribution of tasks among ward secretaries and specific professional groups are planned for future implementation in a designated unit of the Wellbeing Services County.
