Appointment booking for seasonal vaccinations to start on 17 September for over 75-year-olds and individuals with immunodeficiency – vaccinations begin in October
Seasonal influenza vaccines and COVID-19 booster doses are available to target groups specified by THL from October onwards. Vaccination sites include health stations and maternity and child health clinics.
Over 75-year-olds and individuals with immunodeficiency can start booking their appointments for seasonal vaccinations on Wednesday 17 September 2025. Vaccinations begin in October. Appointment booking for other groups starts on Wednesday 1 October 2025, and the vaccinations begin on 15 October 2025. Influenza vaccines will arrive at our vaccination sites right before the start date, which means that vaccinations cannot be conducted in September.
Vaccination sites include health stations and maternity and child health clinics. We cannot address other concerns during a vaccination appointment.
Elderly nursing home residents receive the seasonal vaccines at the nursing home and home care clients during a home care visit. If you live in a round-the-clock service housing unit in Disability Services, you will receive the vaccine at your unit. School nurses will send Wilma messages to inform parents and students about the specific influenza vaccination dates for each school.

Changes to COVID-19 vaccination target groups in autumn 2025
Currently, COVID-19 causes in increasingly fewer cases a severe variant of the disease or need for hospital treatment. According to a study conducted by THL, for instance, more than 5,000 healthy individuals aged 65–75 would need to be vaccinated to prevent a COVID-19 infection, where hospital treatment is needed. THL no longer recommends a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for healthy individuals under 75 or solely based on pregnancy. However, the vaccine is still important for the elderly, persons with multiple illnesses and individuals with immunodeficiency.
THL recommends a booster dose in the autumn 2025 to following target groups:
- elderly people in nursing homes or receiving regular organised home care, as well as elderly people receiving informal care
- everyone aged 75 or older
- persons of all ages with severe immunodeficiency
- over 18-year-olds with two or more conditions that increase the risk of severe COVID-19.
