Hepatitis C testing to be offered across Western Uusimaa
Do you inject drugs, or have you done so in the past? We offer free and confidential hepatitis C testing across the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County until summer 2027.
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral infection that causes inflammation of the liver. The infection may remain symptom-free for a long time but can eventually lead to serious liver disease.
Rapid testing close to residents
We will offer hepatitis C testing in nearly all municipalities in the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County. Testing will continue until 30 June 2027. You can find the schedule and testing locations here: Hepatitis C testing for people who inject or have injected drugs
Testing includes blood tests taken from a finger-prick sample and a painless liver health assessment.
The test results are usually ready in about an hour.
People who receive a positive result are referred for further examinations or treatment.
The hepatitis C project supports testing and access to treatment
A large number of hepatitis C infections are diagnosed in the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County each year. The number of clients at our health advice centres for people who use drugs is also high by national comparison.
The government-funded hepatitis C project aims to prevent new infections, reduce the health harms caused by the disease and make testing and treatment easier to access. Outreach testing is one way of reaching people at risk of infection and offering help as early as possible.
