Basic inpatient care

Inpatient care in primary health care is inpatient care intended for people over the age of 16, for the treatment and rehabilitation needs caused by an acute illness or deterioration in the functional ability. The need for inpatient care is assessed by the referring unit's physician. A basic-level unit or a demanding basic-level unit is chosen depending on the patient's needs. As a rule, the patients come from specialised medical care, joint emergency care, health centre emergency care, home care and service housing. An assessment of the patient's needs for rehabilitation and services is made at the ward. The objective is to be able to discharge the patient. Some patients may switch to service housing with 24-hour assistance. Basic-level inpatient care At the basic level, inpatient care is carried out by a general practitioner in primary health care. At the beginning of the treatment period, a comprehensive assessment and plan are drawn up for the patient. Both the patient themselves and a multi-professional team participate in this process. The treatment is based on a rehabilitative approach. The main objective is that the patient can be discharged or return to their previous form of housing: If this is not possible despite sufficient rehabilitation, an assessment concerning the continued treatment is made for the patient. Demanding basic-level inpatient care At the demanding basic level, inpatient care is carried out by a specialist in accordance with a certain profile in primary health care. The aim is to treat and provide short-term rehabilitation for acute illnesses. If the treatment period is prolonged, the patient may be transferred to basic-level inpatient care.

Conditions for receiving the Service

Basic-level and demanding basic-level ward care is provided through a referral from a physician. The patient must have a need for hospital care that does not require specialised medical care. The physician will assess how demanding the care is and the specific needs of the patient. The physician will choose the most suitable ward available for your treatment.

The service is subject to a charge.
