Orthodontic treatment
We treat malocclusion that makes it difficult for the teeth to develop and function normally.
Malocclusions are commonly hereditary, but they may also result from habits such as prolonged pacifier use during childhood. Addressing improper bites is important because it can interfere with chewing and cause pain in the head and facial areas.
During an examination, we will evaluate your bite and assess any occlusal issues. Severe bite disorders can be remedied through orthodontic treatment. In some cases, tooth extraction may be necessary to ensure that the remaining teeth align properly along the dental arch.
Orthodontic care typically lasts 1-3 years, followed by a maintenance phase that usually lasts 2 years. Before treatment begins, we outline clear goals and provide a detailed treatment plan, which may be adjusted as your teeth develop. You are required to use the prescribed orthodontic appliances as instructed and to bring them to every appointment. Successful treatment depends on maintaining good oral health-your teeth must be free of decay and gum infections, and rigorous oral hygiene is essential throughout the process.
The primary age group for orthodontic treatment is 6-17 years. Adults with more complex issues can receive care through a specialized oral healthcare unit, following referral by a dentist. Orthodontic services for aesthetic purposes are not available through public healthcare but can be accessed at a private dental clinic at your own expense.
Important additional information:
- Choosing to start orthodontic treatment is entirely voluntary.
- If you begin treatment, you are expected to follow the scheduled appointments and instructions.
- Your commitment to using the appliances as directed and maintaining good oral hygiene directly impacts the treatment outcome.
- Treatment may be discontinued if you do not follow appliance usage guidelines, maintain adequate oral hygiene, or if you have 3 or more missed appointments without cancellation.
- It is common to experience tooth sensitivity for a few days at the start of treatment.
