Support for accessible housing

We reimburse our clients for the necessary modifications to their homes, if that is required for the client to be able to live independently at home.

You have the right to receive a reasonable allowance for accessible housing if you need it for living independently in your own home. You are eligible for the allowance if you have a disability caused by an injury or illness that prevents you from coping or living at home without alterations to your home.

We grant housing allowance if you cannot manage life at home without it, including:

  • daily activities
  • mobility
  • other independent activities in your home and its surroundings.

We provide reasonable allowances for accessible housing for

  • home alterations
  • removing obstacles in the immediate vicinity of a home
  • accessible housing equipment and technical solutions
  • planning accessible housing.

We will carry out the alterations to your home or arrange an outside party to do them. If you commission the alterations independently, you have to apply for compensation within six months of being invoiced.

We will compensate you for all reasonable costs of altering your home.

Conditions for receiving the Service

The allowance is meant for persons with a disability caused by an injury or illness that prevents them from coping or living at home without the allowance. You are eligible for the accessible housing allowance if you cannot manage life at home without it, including daily activities, mobility and other independent activities in your home and its surroundings. We also provide support for accessible housing for children when it enables them living at home with their family. When alternating between guardians, we also provide accessible housing allowance for the other parent's home if necessary. Home alterations are not done in holiday homes or if the recipient needs institutional care. Basic renovations are also not reimbursed as accessibility alterations.
The service is free of charge. If you want to carry out alterations at a level that is higher than the generally acceptable and reasonable basic level, you will have to pay for the difference.
