Supplementary and preventive social assistance
Social assistance is a safety net designed to secure your and your family’s basic needs while promoting independence. It’s a last-resort form of financial aid provided by social services.
You can apply for basic social assistance from Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. Kela may also grant you urgent social assistance. In this case, the urgency is evaluated by Kela.
Supplementary and preventive social assistance are offered by the social services. You can apply for supplementary and preventive social assistance regardless of Kela's decision on your basic social assistance application.
