Services for minors who have arrived in Finland without a guardian

A child who has arrived in Finland as an unaccompanied minor can live in a family group home or in family care that supports integration. The child receives round-the-clock care and support and is able to live a normal everyday life appropriate for their age. The aim is to support the child's integration into Finnish society.

A family group home is a home-like residential unit. In family care, the child lives with a trained foster family.

Young people who arrived in Finland as unaccompanied minors have the right to aftercare during their transition to adulthood after turning 18. This support helps with questions related to independent living and integration.

We provide guidance and support in areas such as housing and everyday life. We can also support you with finances, social relationships, studies, employment, and planning your future. We are there to support you and help if you face challenges in life.

Conditions for receiving the Service

Family group homes and family care supporting integration are intended for children under 18 who have arrived in Finland without a guardian. A child is entitled to these services once they have received a residence permit and a municipality placement, either through the reception system or as a quota refugee. Access to services for unaccompanied minors is based on an individual service needs assessment. Aftercare to support integration ends at the latest when the young person turns 23. After that, we can help you find other services if needed.
The service is free of charge.
