The Länsi-Uusimaa fire and rescue services task includes preventing accidents, improving alertness needed in case of emergencies within the community and rescue measures and primary care services.

The Länsi-Uusimaa fire and rescue services (Rescue Department) task is to ensure the safety of citizens, businesses and communities in the rescue service region. The task includes preventing accidents, improving alertness needed in case of emergencies within the community and rescue measures and primary care services.

The rescue department takes care of fire and rescue services and first responds in 10 municipalities: Espoo, Hanko, Inkoo, Karkkila, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Lohja, Raasepori, Siuntio and Vihti.  In addition we provide emergency medical care and ambulance services in accordance with separate agreements.

The Länsi-Uusimaa rescue department employs over 600 personnel. Daily accidents and fires are handled by 90 people who are on constant standby in 12 permanent fire stations.

In addition to the personnel from the rescue department, there are volunteers from 40 contract fire departments in the region and operation salaried fire men in Tenhola and Hanko. There are approximately 1000 volunteer firemen working in contract fire departments who take care of emergency preparedness and safety training.
