In the strategy survey in August, we asked Western Uusimaa residents and personnel about the values, strategic priorities and topics that should be given special attention in the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County. We also wanted to know how our residents and personnel would like to participate and influence Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County development work, and what channels should be used to provide information on the construction and services of the wellbeing services county. We received plenty of answers and feedback; a total of 2,129 people participated in the survey.

Influence and participation

Responding to surveys                             75%

Voting in elections                                     68%

Providing feedback on services                61%

The top three means of participation, development and influence stood out clearly: responding to queries, voting and providing feedback on services.

Almost 30 per cent felt that participating in resident information events was a desirable and effective option (27%). Resident panels would also be popular, with 17% of respondents supporting resident panels as a form of inclusion and development. Influence through organisations, i.e. making a difference by participating in organisational activities, was voted on by 12% of respondents. Participation was also seen as a right to receive information by subscribing to and reading resident and personnel bulletins (11%). The survey provided only a few individual answers stating that the respondent does not believe that they are able to influence the functioning or development of the wellbeing services county at all.

Information channels on the construction and services of the Wellbeing Services County

The respondents felt that the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County website, luvn.fi (luvn = Länsi-Uusimaa-Västra-Nyland), was the best source of information on the construction and services of the wellbeing services county. Social media channels were ranked second, and nearly half of respondents would enjoy bulletins distributed at home, which are also being prepared for the wellbeing services county and its services.

Website – www.luvn.fi                              63%

Social media                                            59%

Bulletin delivered to the home                 48%

Traditional media, such as newspapers, are already used or would be used as a source of information by 34% of respondents. The importance and attractiveness of news stories was higher than that of radio (11%). It is also encouraging that 16% of respondents would like to receive information about services from Wellbeing Services County employees and our service-provider partners.

Our skilled employees, a total of 9,000 of whom will be employed by the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County next year, are hoping for strong support and communication from their superiors.

Wellbeing services county intranet          35%

Regular staff information meetings organised through Teams, such as virtual Friday coffee breaks or management forums, have also been established in our region as an interesting channel for staff communications (34%) and a good method for reporting on the construction of the wellbeing services county. Information is also available in our shared community, the ‘osallisuusalusta’ inclusion platform, because the personnel that is going to be transferred to the wellbeing services county is currently employed by municipalities and joint municipal authorities. Joint meetings or events are also seen as important places for interaction and information (21%).
