Updated Mobility Support Services Guidelines Effective from Autumn
The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County Board has revised the Mobility Support Services guidelines on 10 June 2024. All service clients will be notified by mail, along with the new client instructions.
Guidelines to be Implemented from 1 September 2024
The Mobility Support Services operating guidelines underwent review by the County Board during the past spring. These guidelines will come into effect on 1 September 2024. The updated operating guidelines for Mobility Support Services can be accessed through the provided link:
Gradual Implementation of Shared Rides
Shared rides, as per the new guidelines, will be introduced in Espoo starting 1 September 2024. Other municipalities will implement shared rides during 2025. However, work and study trips will not be combined until the budget-based mobility support model is in place. Clients of Mobility Support Services will receive a mail notification prior to the implementation of shared rides in their region.
In the process of combining rides, we will consider the needs of clients, environmental impact, and travel costs.
– Our future goal is to combine all transportations that can naturally be merged. This equates to approximately 20% of all transports in Espoo, states Marion Ticklén, Head of the Logistics Services Unit.
Rides will only be combined when feasible. For instance, two clients traveling in the same direction at the same time can share a ride, provided neither has a separate entitlement to individual transport. Ride sharing will not be applicable for work and study trips.
By merging transportations under the Social Welfare Act and the Disability Services Act, we can significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and control cost increases through more efficient use of transportation resources and fewer individual rides. Simultaneously, service availability improves and can be better guaranteed: with the same number of vehicles, we can cater to multiple clients. This marks a substantial improvement, especially in the case of accessible adapted vehicles.
Right to Individual Transport as Required
Clients in Espoo can apply for right to individual transport through the Disability Services customer service or Senior Info. Some Espoo clients have already applied for this right via Disability Services in the spring. Now that the new guidelines are in place, we will begin processing these applications and contact requests submitted to the Disability Services customer service. Clients will be contacted by the Disability Services customer service.
Clients residing in other municipalities can apply for individual transport when needed, once the schedule for implementing ride sharing in their respective municipalities is established.
Client Instructions to be Mailed
All service clients will receive the new client instructions via mail in the coming weeks.
