"Virtaa arkeen" – vitality and joy in elderly adults’ daily lives
The Virtaa arkeen ("Energy for Everyday Life") lifestyle group has given participants a positive boost and tangible successes. The group is aimed at people aged 65+ and offers an inspiring opportunity to improve wellbeing and functional capacity through small, everyday changes.
The sessions focus on the joy of movement, nourishing food, mental wellbeing, and the importance of rest and recovery—together, in a supportive atmosphere. Participants set personal goals around these themes, receive peer support, and get practical tips for building healthier habits.
Why join?
In the autumn, nine pilot groups were launched, along with one group held remotely. Most participants (90%) attended for the full programme. The results from the groups that have concluded show that:
- 92% of participants felt the group increased their motivation and skills to make lifestyle changes.
- 96% gained additional knowledge to support their wellbeing.
- 84% of participants’ goals progressed during the programme.
- 65% were exercising at least three times a week by the end of the programme—at an intensity that left them slightly out of breath. One third had increased brisk physical activity in their daily lives.
More than 200 pieces of feedback were collected from participants and facilitators at the end of each session, and this feedback was used for ongoing development. Based on the responses, the session content was considered useful (85% of responses), and the groups’ open, safe atmosphere enabled effective peer support (98% of responses).
New groups starting in spring across the wellbeing services county
New groups will begin during the spring in different parts of the wellbeing services county as soon as there are enough participants. The programme includes eight group sessions as well as two one-to-one meetings. Groups meet weekly, and some will be arranged remotely via Microsoft Teams. Participation is free of charge.
