How Lunna makes Riitta’s daily life easier: “You can send a message whenever it suits you”

Riitta Luhtala from Lohja finds Lunna easy to use. Now she encourages other older residents to give it a try.
Lunna is the digital service platform of the Wellbeing Services County. With Lunna, residents have a quick and easy way to manage healthcare-related matters. Riitta Luhtala, 76, from Lohja started using Lunna as soon as it was launched. Luhtala has used the service to check laboratory results, complete symptom assessments and handle matters on behalf of her spouse. In her experience, the app has worked well.
Through Lunna, you can contact your health station, dental services or Senior Info, to name a few examples. During service hours, you can chat with a professional in real time, and non-urgent messages are answered within three business days.
“What I like most is that if something’s on my mind, I can send a message whenever it suits me,” Luhtala says.
Lunna also reduces unnecessary phone calls.
“Handling things by phone can be cumbersome. Take call-backs for example: you have no idea when the call will come. Sometimes you end up waiting all day,” she says.
Lunna makes managing matters easier in other ways, too. For instance, you can send a nurse a photo of the affected area, and attaching documents is straightforward. If you monitor your blood pressure or blood sugar at home, you can send the results directly to a professional through Lunna.
“Before, you had to take such documents to the health station in person. Now I can send them in Lunna— saves me a bit of legwork too,” Luhtala says with a chuckle.
“It’s absolutely worth it”
Luhtala found getting started clear and easy. She encourages her peers to take the plunge.
“I absolutely think it’s worth starting to use Lunna,” she says.
“I’ve been promoting it in our pensioners’ association and showing friends how they can get in touch through the service.”
Luhtala's background in healthcare and using information systems made trying a new app feel natural, but she emphasizes that Lunna doesn’t require any special expertise.
“It’s not exactly rocket science. You can download the app easily from the app store,” she says.
Luhtala also points out that you don’t have to navigate digital services on your own. She recommends the free digital guidance sessions at the Lohja library, where peer tutors (“digital seniors”) offer hands-on support in using devices and apps. Free digital guidance is also available in other municipalities in the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.
