Requesting an Administrative Review of Social Services Decisions
You have the right to request an administrative review of any decision concerning a social service or benefit granted to you. (For example, a decision on basic social assistance, transport services, or informal care support.) Detailed instructions for this process are included in the appeal instructions attached to the decision.
If you have questions about the decision, please contact the authority that issued it. Contact details are included in the decision document.
An office-holder may revoke and revise a faulty decision if:
- The decision was based on clearly incorrect or insufficient information.
- The wrong legislation was applied.
- A procedural error occurred during decision-making.
- New information has emerged that could significantly impact the decision.
Contacting the issuing authority does not suspend the time limit for filing a review request. The deadline is specified in the instructions for filing a review request.
Request for Review of a Flat-Rate or Income-Based Client Fee
Read more client fees: Client fees for social welfare and health care services.
Flat-rate client charges are the same for everyone. Examples include fees for outpatient care, rehabilitation services, and oral health services (such as appointments at a health station, with a physiotherapist, or a dentist).
To contest a flat-rate fee, follow the appeal instructions attached to your invoice. If you have questions, please contact the care provider or billing unit listed on the invoice.
Income-based fees apply, for example, to regular home care or 24-hour residential care. The decision specifies the amount you are required to pay based on your income.
You may request a review of the decision by following the review instructions attached.
Note: You cannot appeal an invoice that is based on a fee decision. Only the decision itself can be reviewed.
If you have questions about the fee decision, please contact the issuing authority. Contact details appear on the front page of the document.
Contacting the issuing authority does not suspend the time limit for filing a review request. The deadline is specified in the appeal instructions.
