Home hospital

The home hospital offers you hospital-level care in your own home, a sheltered housing facility or a care home. Home hospital care is an alternative to inpatient care in a hospital throughout the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.

You always come to the home hospital with a referral from a doctor and with your consent. The doctor will assess whether your illness can be treated at home and whether your condition permits for the treatment to be provided at home.

A physician is responsible for the treatment provided in the home hospital. Nurses carry out pharmacotherapy, take laboratory tests and monitor your condition 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The home hospital activities also include two outpatient clinics: a palliative outpatient clinic and an infusion clinic. The home hospital also provides intravenous and other intensive forms of medication. The home hospital can also be involved in your care if curative treatment is no longer available for your condition, i.e. a physician has prepared a palliative care or end-of-life care decision with you. Between home hospital visits, you should be able to manage at home independently, with the support of your loved ones, home care or other assistance.

The home hospital service is subject to a fee and taken into consideration in the annual payment ceiling. A maximum of three visits per day are invoiced for the home hospital services. A physician's appointment at the infusion clinic and palliative care clinic is subject to a clinic fee which is taken into consideration in the annual payment ceiling. A nurse's appointment is free of charge.

The home hospital and outpatient clinic services are free of charge for the clients of home care, communal housing and long-term 24-hour sheltered housing.
