Service voucher for dental care

In addition to a basic oral examination, the service voucher covers X-rays and the treatment of up to three teeth, including the required anaesthetics.

The treatment of a tooth refers to a filling, root canal treatment or extraction. Based on the assessment of your need for treatment, you may also receive preventive treatment or treatment for gum tissue diseases.

The service voucher does not cover emergency services, prostheses, occlusal splints, orthodontic treatment or surgeries.

A professional will make an initial assessment of your need for treatment over the phone. You may receive a service voucher if the treatment you need can be covered by the treatments that are available with a service voucher.  

You will receive your service voucher number via text message or by post to your home address. The service voucher is valid for six months after it is granted.

1. Select a dental clinic that accepts service vouchers. You can find the clinics’ details at the bottom of this page.
2. Book an appointment. You can contact the clinic to inquire about the availability of appointments. 
3. Give your service voucher number when booking an appointment. You will receive a treatment plan and a cost estimate for your treatment during your first appointment.
4. Visit the clinic according to your treatment plan.
5. Pay the client charge, i.e. the difference between the price of the treatment and the value of the service voucher, to the dental clinic.
6. Give feedback on the treatment and service you received. You will receive instructions from the dental clinic.

The dentist at the private dental clinic will determine your need for treatment. You will receive an estimate of the final price of your treatment after an initial examination.

The final price of your treatment depends on the procedures you need. The client charge, i.e., the out-of-pocket amount, is the difference between the service provider’s price and the value of the service voucher.

Dental care provided by a service voucher clinic costs approximately 20–40% more than dental care at a municipal dental clinic.

• The client charges paid by a service voucher user do not count towards the annual payment ceiling specified in the Act on Client Charges in Healthcare and Social Welfare (734/1992, section 6 a).
• Kela will not reimburse you for the client charges under the Health Insurance Act. However, you may receive reimbursement for travel expenses in line with the Health Insurance Act.
• If you would like to inquire about the possibility of receiving basic social assistance from Kela or supplementary social assistance from the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County, please contact the aforementioned organisations.
• If you move away from the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County (Hanko, Espoo, Ingå, Karkkila, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Lohja, Raseborg, Siuntio or Vihti) in the middle of your treatment period, the validity of your service voucher will end on your moving date. The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County is not liable for any treatment costs after your moving date.
• The fee for uncancelled, missed appointments is determined by the dental clinic’s price list. Remember to check the cancellation terms when booking an appointment. 

The service voucher is valid for six months after it is granted. 

If you move away from the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County (Hanko, Espoo, Ingå, Karkkila, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Lohja, Raseborg, Siuntio or Vihti) in the middle of your treatment period, the validity of your service voucher will end on your moving date. The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County is not liable for any treatment costs after your moving date.

You can refuse a service voucher. In that case, your treatment is arranged by the dental clinics of the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County. However, you may have to wait a little longer for your treatment.

If you want to stop using the service voucher in the middle of your treatment period,

• please clearly inform the dental clinic of your choice that you wish to discontinue treatment.
• If necessary, contact the number of service voucher for Oral Health Services, tel. 029 151 2960 Mon–Fri 8.00–16.00.
• You will have to pay the client charges for any treatment (for example, an examination) received at the private dental clinic up to that point.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received, you should primarily contact the dental clinic in question. There is a contractual relationship between you and the private dental clinic concerning your treatment.

The clinic’s patient ombudsman will give you advice if you need it. If there is a dispute concerning the agreement between you and the dental clinic, you can also contact the Consumer Disputes Board and ask it to resolve the matter.
