Let’s help our young people get out of crime

Our wellbeing services county participates in both regional and local prevention of crime. Our services support our clients’ desistance from crime, together with other authorities and professionals working with young people.

Juvenile delinquency among people under the age of 21, and violent crime committed by people under the age of 15 in particular, has been on the increase for about five years (source: Juvenile delinquency(external link)). We support the capacity and expertise of our staff to meet the needs of adolescents and constantly develop our services.

The project ‘Prevention of juvenile delinquency’ provides specialised training in youth social work in addressing serious and repeated crimes in social services for children and young people under 21: in child welfare, social work for young adults and services that support integration. Anchor Work, Legal Representation of Adolescents and Adult Social Work for Persons Released from Prison are also involved in the training process.

We are implementing the project in cooperation with the Family Centre service network, including the Western Uusimaa Police Department, the Criminal Sanctions Agency, municipal youth work and organisations. Our aim is to ensure consistent quality services supporting desistance from crime for young people and their families and to reduce juvenile delinquency in our region.

The project is implemented with a special grant(external link) from the Ministry of Justice in the period 1 September 2024–31 December 2025.
