Questions and answers about the Lähilääkärit Leppävaara service point
The Lähilääkärit Leppävaara service point will open on 1 September 2026. The new service point will have two teams, each consisting of a specialist in general medicine and a nurse.
The new service point and background to the change
Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County is reforming its services between 2026 and 2029. One of the aims of the reform is to ensure that every client has a designated doctor. Opening Lähilääkärit Leppävaara service point is one step towards achieving this goal. The designated doctor model is intended to improve continuity of care and strengthen the care relationship between each client and their doctor.
The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County has introduced a self-employed practitioner model in its health station services. The model will be expanded in autumn 2026. Under the model, medical services are procured through competitive tendering, and the selected doctors work as self-employed practitioners. They may work on the wellbeing services county’s premises or at their own clinics. The self-employed practitioners serve as personal doctors.
The new service point will have two teams, each consisting of a personal doctor and a personal nurse. Under the personal doctor model, clients are cared for by a familiar professional who knows their situation.
This supports continuity of care, makes it easier to access services and improves service availability. The model is particularly beneficial for clients who need services regularly and over a long period.
Clients of the service point
Approximately 5,000 Espoo residents living in the Leppävaara Health Station area will become clients of the Lähilääkärit Leppävaara service point. The residents will be selected at random. However, every effort will be made to assign members of the same household to the same doctor.
All clients selected for the Lähilääkärit Leppävaara service point will receive a letter before the service point opens.
