Social instruction for families with children

We help families with children in daily challenges in which they need support, new perspectives or solutions.

Social instruction for families with children is part of the family centre's family social work services. The purpose of social instruction is to provide help if your family has challenges in everyday life that require support and some new perspective. During the meetings, we will discuss new solutions to problematic situations together with the parent and/or child, guide your family in using services and support integrating different services. The service is planned and tailored together with your family to suit your needs. Social instruction can be provided as a temporary basic-level service or as child welfare support as a special service. Social instruction is based on helping the family by means of goal-oriented work. Social instruction aims to strengthen the child's, young person's and parent's resources and agency. Social instruction provides you with advice and guidance through various service channels. Contacting the service does not necessarily lead to a customer relationship with social welfare services; sometimes you can receive sufficient support already during your first contact. Social instruction also involves drawing up a service needs assessment as per the Social Welfare Act. The focus of the service needs assessment is your personal assessment of your support needs. However, you do not need to be able to name the service you need; a social instruction professional will assess the matter together with you. If necessary and with your permission, other professionals, such as health care, early childhood education, the school and pupil welfare services, will also be involved in the assessment of your support needs.

Conditions for receiving the Service

You can receive help from social instruction if your family has children under the age of 18 and needs for guidance and advice are related to the following: - assessing the need for services and integrating various services, - strengthening your family's life management and functional ability, - learning about available services.

The service is free of charge.

Please note that for social instruction we need the consent of both guardians. You can find detailed instructions and contact information by choosing your home municipality.
