Rehabilitation services for people with developmental disabilities

We assess the need for a rehabilitation plan and physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

You can become a rehabilitation client when the monitoring in specialised medical care ends or when you move to the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County from another municipality.

In the rehabilitation services, we will assess the need for physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy as well as a rehabilitation plan for adults with developmental disabilities aged over 18. The rehabilitation plan process is coordinated by the rehabilitation coordinator.

Rehabilitation plans for persons with developmental disabilities aged over 18 for Kela's intensive medical rehabilitation are prepared at health stations. Assessments and plans for individuals under 18 with intellectual disabilities are conducted through rehabilitation services for children and young people.

Conditions for receiving the Service

Most of the rehabilitation is intensive rehabilitation organised by Kela, which is provided by Kela's contract therapists in private practices. Basic rehabilitation and its planning for people with developmental disabilities are carried out at their local health station. Health examinations and the necessary certificates, for example for transport services, are prepared at health stations. If you need other support, advice and guidance related to a developmental disability to help you cope in your daily life, contact the rehabilitation coordinator in your area.
Rehabilitation services for persons with developmental disabilities are mainly free of charge. See the Health stations website for health station fees.
